HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

This past Thursday was the United States holiday of Thanksgiving!

I had the opportunity to show my students what we do in the USA for this day.

First I explained the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. Families all across the country get together to give thanks for all they have and to eat a meal consisting of turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy, candied yams, rolls, green beans, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie! This is a huge meal, and most people don’t eat all day until Thanksgiving dinner is served.

In the morning, we watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which is a large celebration where floats of famous characters go all around New York City.

After dinner, we watch the football game. This year's teams were the New England Patriots vs. the Minnesota Vikings.

Some people also begin Black Friday shopping after dinner, but most people wait for the next day, which is the actual day for Black Friday.

Thanksgiving is the start of the Christmas season and it is a day for families to be grateful for each other. I am super sad to have missed dinner this year with my family, but I know that they had a great meal without me!
